Thursday, June 27, 2019 Pusfatja in collaboration with the Japan Space Forum (JSF) and Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) held a workshop to support and improve monitoring of long-term meteorological information such as rainfall, air temperature, soil moisture, vegetation index, in the ASEAN region through capacity building using earth observation satellite products developed by Japan Aerospace Exploration (JAXA), NASA, NOAA, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and others. It is expected that monitoring can be used to support agricultural management in ASEAN, especially in monitoring / status of plants and estimation of crop production, which leads to improved statistical information on crop production and food security.

In the workshop, information was also provided on planting analysis, estimation of planting area, estimation of crop production, and comprehensive plant information generation and information exchange and to support prototype implementation, and long-term sustainability. The main focus of the activity is expected to be the continuation of information and knowledge, user involvement, data sharing and system integration of earth observation satellite products with the main users, namely ASEAN member countries (AMS).

The workshop was attended by participants from the Center for Remote Imaging Sensing and Processing (CRISP-Singapore), National Remote Sensing Department (NRSD-Vietnam), Lao PDR, NFRI, Enginnering Research Center - MARD, Malaysia), Department of Science and Technology (DOST-Philippines ), JSF, Cambodia Agriculture Research and Development Institute - CARDI, Cambodia), JAXA, Remote Sensing Technology Center of JAPAN (RECTEC, JAPAN), Research Center for BMKG and Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), as well as Pusfatja researchers and Pustekdata.
